We currently offer five different bases here at the Knotty Buffalo. The bases I have chosen to dye are all sourced from a company based in Virginia, that takes care to responsibly source their fiber. Though most bases are listed as super wash, please be advised that the recommended method is to hand wash with wool wash and lay flat. Please find more information about each base below. Each skein is rinsed mercilessly in the dye process but you should still expect a little bleed. I try my best to accurately display the colorways dyed on each base but keep in mind that each skein is dyed by hand. This, and monitor settings may skew the actual color of the skein.

Allentown Bulky

This base is a bulky single- ply yarn made from 80% superwash merino and 20% nylon to add strength. This base has nice, clean stitch definition. It’s great for things like hats and scarves that do not experience so much friction. Due to the nature of single ply yarn, it is more likely to felt over time with washing and friction. Each skein is 100 grams and 76 yards.

North Buffalo DK

This base is very soft, squishy and good for almost any project! This base is made of 4-ply super wash merino. Each skein consists of 231 yards and 100g. Enough for most hat patterns and even some scarves and cowls.

First Ward Fingering

This base is perfect for socks, or any project that will get a lot of wear! It is a 4-ply yarn made up of 75% super wash merino and 25% nylon. Each skein is 100g and 463 yards. Plenty for a pair of socks, a hat, and many scarf or cowl patterns. I also have mini skeins available in this base. They are 20g and 92 yards.

Elmwood Village Fingering

This base is a bouncy but more soft than its sibling, First Ward Fingering. This base is a 2-ply, 80% super wash merino and 20% nylon. Each 100g skein has 400 yards.

South Side Suri

This base is a singly ply lace weight yarn. The fluffy Suri Alpaca creates a halo affect, kind of like mohair. Hold Suri double with another base to add warmth and softness without the weight of a bulkier yarn. Each skein is 74% Baby Suri Alpaca and 26% silk, 328 yards and 50 grams.
